When should you call for an ambulance rather than driving to the emergency department? Ask yourself the following questions:

If you can answer yes to any of the questions above, or if you are uncertain you need to call an ambulance. Sometimes you can manage to get a person to the hospital sooner than an ambulance, although in most situations calling an ambulance is the wiser choice. Medical technicians can start treatment immediately upon arriving on the scene and implement life saving strategies during the ride to the hospital. They can also provide the hospital with details on the patient's condition during the route, therefore giving the hospital time to prepare for the situation and be ready.
